RTW Career Break, 2009-2010

July 19, 2009 – 1 week
Banff, Canada – our first trip out of the country after we left our jobs!

August 18, 2009 – 3 months
Europe Tour – backpacking through Europe hitting the following places:

  • Amsterdam, Netherlands (3 days) – traveling with both of our Mom’s
  • Bruges, Belgium (1.5 days) – traveling with both of our Mom’s
  • Paris, France (5 days) – traveling with both of our Mom’s
  • Barcelona, Spain (3 days) – visiting Alonna’s friend
  • Provence, France (5 days)
  • Chamonix, France (5 days)
  • Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland (3 days)
  • Innsbruck, Austria (1 day)
  • Salzburg, Austria (6 days) – couchsurfing 3 nights
  • Munich, Germany (5 days) – staying with a friend
  • Berlin, Germany (3 days) – meeting Alonna’s aunt and cousins
  • Prague, Czech Republic (2 days)
  • Cesky Krumlov (3 days)
  • Vienna, Austria (4 days) – couchsurfing
  • Krems, Austria(1 day) – biking the Danube
  • Budapest, Hungary (5 days)
  • Venice, Italy (2 days)
  • Florence, Italy (7 days) – renting an apartment
  • Cinque Terre, Italy (3 days)
  • Siena, Italy (3 days) – side trips to Pisa and Volterra
  • Orvieto, Italy (2 days)
  • Sorrento, Italy (4 days)
  • Athens, Greece (3 days)
  • Nafplio, Greece (3 days)
  • Rome, Italy (5 days) – renting an apartment

November 16, 2009 – 1.5 months
Boise, Idaho USA – back home to regroup and spend the holidays with family

January, 2010 – 5 months
Round-the-World Trip – circumnavigating the globe and exploring 5 continents!

  • Quito, Ecuador (3 weeks) – Alonna will be studying Spanish while Ben remains in Boise
  • Galapagos Islands, Ecuador (10 days) – Ben arrives in Ecuador we head out for an 8 day cruise
  • Patagonia, Argentina & Chile (3 weeks) – Hiking, biking, and enjoying the outdoors
  • Buenos Aires, Argentina (4 days) – A little time in the city before leaving South America
  • Istanbul, Turkey (6 days) – We missed Istanbul on our Europe tour, so we’re going back!
  • Egypt (9 days) – Traveling further back in history from where we left off in Ancient Greece and Rome
  • South Africa (9 days) – We’ll base in Johannesburg and go on an African Safari
  • New Zealand (1 month) – Focusing on the South Island and all the adventures we can manage in a month
  • Australia (3 weeks) – Three weeks somewhere in Australia
  • Hawaii (1 week) – Bonus! Our RTW ticket lets us stop in Hawaii on our way home

July 19, 2010 – The End
Boise, Idaho USA – Alonna returns to work
