Tonight there was a huge fire in Southeast Boise in a neighborhood near our house.  We first noticed something when we heard a lot of sirens outside.  The wind was really strong and we had headed out on our bikes to try out Ben’s new kite.  But we saw smoke in the distance and decided to head that direction to investigate.  There was a huge fire spread out across a large open field off of Amity Road and houses burning on the ridge above.  It’s so dry here, and with the strong winds the fire spread like crazy.  We got there pretty early so we saw it spread and multiple houses catch on fire.  It sounds like about 10 houses burnt down and a bunch more damaged.  Luckily it doesn’t sound like anyone was hurt.  Anyway, our video and photos probably tell the story better than I can…

Thanks for posting these pictures. All I have access to are some of the ones from the Statesman, and they have been difficult to get ahold of. I love the picture of those horses.

Brooke – Thank you for the note. You are more than welcome to download and use these photos however you wish. If you want higher resolution just let me know and I can e-mail them.

I looked at your blog a bit, it’s very nice. I’m so sorry for the loss of your home last August. I can’t imagine how difficult that would be. However, your son is adorable and your new house looks great. I hope that you and your family are doing well.

my name is devyn, and im 12 years old. one of those houses was mine. they said it was the hot-spot of the fire. now it is completely gone, and unfortunately, my dad and stepmom decided that we would be the only family not rebuilding our house. our lives have totally flipped upside down since that fire, living in 2 hotels, rental houses, and now my dad is moving all the way to arizona. even though that fire made my world tear apart, i just wanted to let you guys know how apprecative i am of everyone trying to sew it back together. there were countless donations, and a giant barbeque that my dad and i put together with an outcome of about 500 people. once again, thanks to everyone for helping me out.
